How It Works
Having MANTA’s lineage integrated into the Alation data catalog allows users to view end-toend column-level lineage and transformation lineage directly in the data catalog. Thanks to the integration, Alation users can seamlessly switch over to MANTA whenever they need to see a more detailed view of the lineage or a historical record of that lineage. How do we do it?
MANTA retrieves lineage from across various sources, not only within a single data source. MANTA does it by extracting lineage not only from data sources and BI tools but also from ETL and other data integration tools. This establishes a robust foundation for MANTA’s column-level lineage that is comprehensive, including the organization’s entire data flow.
Once the map of data flows is generated, MANTA will push that lineage information to the Alation catalog. This will allow Alation users to view MANTA’s end-to-end column-level lineage across ETL tools, data sources, and BI sources.
Having both solutions working together enables better collaboration between users. One such feature is the propagation of warnings across the lineage graph. If there is an issue with a particular table, the user who detected it can add a warning flag, and that warning will be propagated downstream from the lineage to all the objects on the way.
