MANTA Release 38: New Scanners, Major Enhancements, Exciting Features, and More!

Engineer's Notes MANTA Business
October 11, 2022

As summer gives way to autumn, we here at MANTA are gearing up for a brand new release. Since the launch of Release 37, our engineering team has been hard at work adding impressive features and improvements that we are excited to share with you.

Release 38 is packed with new capabilities for the MANTA platform. Highlights include the early release of two powerful scanners, plenty of technology upgrades, and a new user convenience feature that is both useful and fun. Read on to learn how MANTA is making waves with data lineage!

Early Release of Two Key Scanners

With Release 38, we have added two new scanners: Fivetran and Azure Data Factory. Both are increasingly popular cloud-based ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) solutions.

Fivetran is an ETL solution that has exploded onto the scene and represents an exciting new offering for Release 38. Azure Data Factory (ADF) is another key piece in the portfolio of Microsoft offerings that MANTA already supports. As a product from the Microsoft Azure data platform, ADF can connect to Microsoft’s cloud data warehouse Azure Synapse Analytics — part of its intelligent data platform — which MANTA already offers a powerful scanner for. Supporting a scanner for Azure Data Factory is just one more way that MANTA provides tools that lead to actionable business insights.

Significant Enhancements to Existing Technologies

While expanding our ever-growing roster of supported scanners, Release 38 also brings broader functionality to the technologies we already use. SAS, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, and SAP Hana have all undergone noteworthy improvements, and MANTA has also added a variety of new features and upgrades. With Release 38, we now support:

  • Alation RefreshTokens: a smarter way of managing API connectivity for our Alation integration
  • Power BI: enables support for paginated reports, which facilitates the printing of all the data in a given table within a neat page-fitting format, no matter the length
  • The “COPY FROM” statement for PostgreSQL
  • The export command for SAP HANA

Additionally, MANTA has bolstered the performance of the Neo4j data repository, causing the repository tree to load faster. With this release, we are also introducing improvements to SAS and support for over two dozen operators and functions for Snowflake. The complete list can be found in the release notes.

New User Convenience Feature: MANTA Alias

In an exciting move, MANTA is now providing a mechanism for customers to provide an “alias” to rename items in the repository tree. This method, known as MANTA Alias, will allow customers to more easily understand their stored objects by replacing overly technical names with labels that are more meaningful to their users.

“As an example, a database with the name of ‘FNC24196R’ can be renamed to something simpler like ‘Finance’ so that it is more easily recognized by everyone,” noted Ernie Ostic, SVP of Products.

All Eyes on the Future of MANTA
